WINNER OF THE BEST TOURISM EVENT OF THE YEAR
AT THE LANCASHIRE AND
BLACKPOOL
TOURISM AWARDS 2008/09
The Lancashire Food Festival
proved its success and popularity as it scooped a top prize at the prestigious
Lancashire
and Blackpool Tourism Awards.
The Food Festival
organised by Leisure in Hyndburn Trust won the prestigious accolade of Tourism Event
of the Year. The award, which is voted for by the public, had over thirty of the
best events from the area in its category so the Food Festival did extremely well
to come out on top!

Ted Robbins
from BBC’s Radio Lancashire presented all the awards which took place at Blackburn
Rovers Football on June 18th.
Mike Wilkinson,
Chief Executive of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board said:
It was fitting
to hold our fifth awards at Blackburn Rovers,
Lancashire
’s representative in football’s top league. Our entrants are equally premiership
class and deserve their recognition.
The Lancashire
Food Festival will now go on to represent Lancashire and Blackpool at the
England
’s Northwest Tourism Awards later this year.
Many thanks
to everyone who voted and to all our exhibitors both past and present who have helped
to shape the Festival into such a successful event.
News and photos from 2009
2009 was another huge success. The
festival attracted a record number of visitors and had a fantastic variety of
exhibitors from Lancashire and beyond. From
ice-cream to black pudding, Benedictine to fairy cakes and fresh bread there was
something to suit everyone.

Gino proved extremely popular with his
cookery demonstrations and we are thrilled he is returning this year.
Lancashire’s own Philippa James ran children’s foodie
workshops and demonstrated ways to “feed the family”. We also welcomed Luke
Pilkington, a talented young chef whose recipes and menus highlighted his
passion for local produce.
Accrington and
Rossendale College’s Hospitality and Catering Department hosted a cookery
demonstration in the style of ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’.

News and photos
from 2008
The Festival
in April 2008 was a huge success. Attracting more visitors than ever before –over
4000 and showcasing over 60 exhibitors from all over
Lancashire
and beyond.
We managed
to persuade Simon King and Dave Myers- AKA The Hairy Bikers to come along and open
the festival. They were a huge attraction and the number of people who queued to
see them exceeded all our expectations.
Their enthusiasm, friendliness and willingness to adapt all helped to make the Festival
a huge success.
They cooked
up a storm in the Cookery theatre, signed hundreds of autographs, posed for many
photos and chatted to as many people as possible.
